If good people go to Heaven and bad people go to Hell, where would you go if you died today? Do you mind if I ask you a few questions to see if you are a good person according to God's commandments?
Have you ever told a lie? If yes, what does that make you?
9th Commandment: Thou shalt not bear false witness.
Have you ever stolen anything, even small? If yes, what does that make you?
8th Commandment: Thou shalt not steal.
Have you ever taken the Lord's name in vain? If yes, what does that make you?
3rd Commandment: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain (which is called blasphemy).
Have you ever looked at someone with lust? If yes, what does that make you?
7th Commandment: Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:28: “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
Have you ever hated someone? If yes, what does that make you?
6th Commandment: Thou shalt not kill.
The Bible says in 1 John 3:15: Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
These are only five of the Ten Commandments. If you answered yes to these questions, by your own admission you would be found guilty as a liar, thief, blasphemer, adulterer and murderer. If you did so well on the test that you were only guilty of telling a lie, the Bible still says in Revelation 21:8 "...all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone."
God does NOT want you to go to hell.
Now, here is the good news! God does not want you to go to hell. 2 Peter 3:9 says the Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. God, knowing everything, knew you couldn't pass a "good person" test to earn your way into heaven. So, here is what He did: John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Pray: I repent of all my sins today. I confess that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior who died for me, and rose from the dead so that I will not perish but have eternal life!
